On November 19, 2009 another meeting on the MR-GO was held in New Orleans, LA. This is the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, also known as the Mr. Gulf. According to MSNBC National, there are many ordinances that were violated that kept our parish safe. The decision that the judge passed was a good decision. “It continues to point out that human misery and suffering and property damage may have been unavoidable, but some of it was avoidable.”
Landmark Decision – ‘MR-GO’

On November 20, 2009, there were some Katrina victims that were excited about the landmark decision made by a local Federal Judge, yet there are others that may not think it is enough. Judge Stanwood Duval’s ruled that the Army Corp of Engineers is responsible for the flooding during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, in Saint Bernard Parish and the lower Ninth Ward. Even though the judge said that the Corp was negligent, he also stated that the dredging of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet “did not affect the safety of levee systems protecting New Orleans East from storm surge.” Those that lost property and were forced to rebuild are not allowed to include this in the suit.

200 alleged victims lost anywhere from five-thousand to a million dollars. The justice department isn’t commenting on what could eventually become of the largest court judgments in history, if the judge’s ruling against the Corp in the MR-GO survives appeals. As of now, there are over half a dozen plaintiff’s in line for a total of over 700-thousand dollars.
